Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, has issued a public apology to Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his alleged involvement in the political tension surrounding moves to remove the Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.

The development follows comments credited to Gbajabiamila, who said he nearly lost his position after intelligence reports linked Elliot to the impeachment plot. He added that he initially dismissed the claim until it was reportedly confirmed through security channels.

Speaking during a television programme, Elliot admitted the situation had caused strain and expressed regret over how events unfolded.

“I know you’re upset, and I want to say I’m sorry in front of everyone,” he said. “I’m not doing this for the cameras. He is my egbon. I grew up learning everything I know in politics through him.”

He further added: “I might have offended you in one way or another. I’m human. To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way.”

Elliot also extended apologies to other individuals he referred to as close associates in Surulere, stressing that his political commitment to his constituency remains intact.

“I’ll keep the party strong,” he said, while maintaining that his performance in office should be judged by constituents. He also indicated interest in seeking another term in the state assembly.
