A Federal Government investigative panel has reported that crossdresser Okuneye Olanrewaju, known as Bobrisky, was granted access to items and facilities beyond standard prison provisions during a six-month stay at custodial centres in Lagos.

The panel, according to a Punch report, said Bobrisky was accommodated in a private cell at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, fitted with a personal bathroom and toilet, television, refrigerator, carpet, humidifier and other furnishings.

It also stated that he was allowed unrestricted visits, with family members reportedly permitted to see him at any time and in varying numbers, and to deliver meals.

At the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, the report described a similarly furnished cell, including wallpaper, a large bed, television, carpet and a humidifier. It further noted that an inmate was assigned to attend to his personal needs.

A key point in the findings was the presence of a soundproofed door attached to his cell, which the panel said was not found in other cells on the same floor.

The panel also raised concerns that he may have had access to mobile phones while in custody, despite prison regulations prohibiting their use.

The investigation followed claims made public by a social media activist, who released an audio recording alleging that Bobrisky paid officials to obtain preferential treatment during incarceration.

The panel has recommended further inquiry into the allegations and also suggested scrutiny of the activist over possible breaches linked to data privacy and the circulation of unverified material.
